Establishing a new record, the Reich authorities have deprive of citizenship 1,119 Jews in the three months ending sept. 30, it was announced today.
Altogether, 3,845 Jews have been denationalized since the advent of the Nazi regime in 1933. Between January, 1933, and January, 1937, the denationalizations averaged 50 a month. From January to June, 1938, the rate jumped sharply to 250 monthly, and from June to September, 1938, the rate increased to 375. The bulk of those denationalized are emigres.
It was reported without verification here that the Belgian Government is determined to deport all Jews who entered the country illegally after aug. 27. Refugees, it was said, will be sent back across the same border they entered. hitherto, the belgian police have been granting temporary residential permits to illegal immigrants who were registered with Jewish welfare organizations.
a fresh setback to Jewish emigration hopes was reported here from Haiti, which is said to have decided to refuse entry to Jews pending working out of a new immigration law. The president of Haiti has been asked to intervene for several Austrian Jews who have not been permitted to enter despite the fact that they have the necessary visas.
It was announced in Vienna that the famous Schoenbrunn Actors Seminary, founded and formerly directed by max Reinhardt has now been incorporated into the Imazistate academy of music and dramatic art. Reinhardt was ousted from control of the Schoenbrunn school and the Josefstaadt theatre in the first days after Anschluss.
