Although total immigration to Canada during 1962 rose by four percent, the number of Jewish immigrants decreased by ten percent as compared with those who arrived during 1961, a Department of Immigration report indicated today.
The data showed that 1,840 Jewish immigrants came to Canada during 1962, compared with 2,043 in 1961. Jewish immigrants admitted to Canada in 1962 ranked twelfth in size. The number of immigrants to Canada in 1962 whose country of last permanent residence was Israel was 558 in 1962, compared with 652 in 1961. The number of former Israeli citizens among immigrants to Canada was 587 in 1962 as compared with 674 in 1961.
