TEN ARABS WERE ARRESTED TODAY AT THE VILLAGE OF SHAFRAM IN NORTHERN PALESTINE AND BROUGHT TO JERUSALEM REPORTEDLY IN CONNECTION WITH THE ASSASSINATION OF DISTRICT COMMISSIONER LEWIS ANDREWS.
AN ARAB WAS ARRESTED HERE IN CONNECTION WITH THE SHOOTING YESTERDAY OF ALEX PRINGLE, INSPECTOR IN CHARGE OF POLICE DOGS, AS HE WAS PASSING THE POST OFFICE. POLICE SEARCHES OF BUILDINGS NEAR THE SCENE OF THE SHOOTING HAD NOT BROUGHT AND IMMEDIATE RESULT.
A SECTION OF THE BEERSHEBA ROAD AND A PASSING PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT TRUCK WERE DAMAGED IN A MINE EXPLOSION. THERE WERE NO CASUALTIES.
MUKHTARS (NATIVE CHIEFTAINS) OF VILLAGES AROUND HAIFA WERE INVITED TO THE GOVERNMENT OFFICES AND SUPPLIED WITH COPIES OF THE REGULATIONS ESTABLISHING MILITARY COURTS FOR DISTRIBUTION TO FELLAHEEN (PEASANTS). THE HAIFA MILITARY COURT WAS EXPECTED TO TRY ITS FIRST CASE TODAY, INVOLVING AN ARAB ARRESTED NEAR JENIN WITH A RIFLE AND TWENTY ROUNDS OF AMMUNITION IN HIS POSSESSION.
NIGHT RAILWAY TRAFFIC WAS ORDERED RESUMED YESTERDAY FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE ARAB DISORDERS BROKE OUT FIVE WEEKS AGO.
COUNCILLOR HASSAN SIDKY EL DAJANI IN A STATEMENT TO FALASTIN, CHRISTIAN ARAB PAPER, REPUDIATED THE JERUSALEM MUNICIPAL COUNCIL’S APPEAL FOR PEACE ISSUED MONDAY. HE DECLARED THE COUNCIL’S MEETING WAS UNOFFICIAL AND HAD BEEN CONVOKED BY THE DISTRICT COMMISSIONER. ACTING MAYOR DANIEL AUSTER TOLD THE J.T.A. THE COUNCIL HAD MET IN EXTRAORDINARY SESSION AND HAD BEEN CONVOKED BY HIM FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF ISSUING THE APPEAL.
