One hundred Jewish community leaders here have kicked off the 1956 drive of the Allied Jewish Campaign with contributions of $1,612,400. The leaders, gathered at a special pre-campaign meeting, pledged the sum, which represents, an increase of better than 33 percent over last year. Spurred by the special UJA fund drive for $25,000,000, in addition to its regular goal of $105 million, the Detroit leaders set a record, topping the previous all-time high registered in the 1948 campaign.
