“Israel authorities will maintain the utmost vigilance for safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and giving the widest possible measure of protection to its citizens,” a military spokesman declared here today, in reply to questions concerning the recent rash of skirmishes and battles between infiltrating Arabs and Israel troops in Transjordan-Israel border regions.
The spokesman revealed that over 100 Israel citizens have been killed in the past year by infiltrees. Pointing out that it is Transjordan’s duty to keep the infiltress from crossing the border into Israel, the spokesman said that the Trans-jordan authorities seem to have lost control of the local populations in the border regions.
Under the armistice agreement, he pointed out, neither troops nor civilians of one country may cross into the other’s territory. The same pact, he stressed, gives the Israelis the right to take whatever measures are necessary to prevent encroachment upon Israel’s sovereignty.
A group of Arab marauders crossing the demarcation lines near the Arab triangle sector today assaulted a group of Jewish workers in the Migdal Zedek stone quarries, located near Petach Tikvah, in an effort to eject the Jews from the quarries. Police units from Petach Tikvah were rushed to the area to restore order.
