The United Synagogue of America fittingly celebrated Lag B’Omer, the Jewish Arbor Day, which commemorates the deliverance of the Jews from Roman bondage, by gathering together more than 10,000 Jewish girls and boys at the Lewisohn Stadium Friday, Bands from the New York Hebrew Orphan Asylum and the City College R. O. T. C., played for the youngsters, who danced Jewish national dances and for the singing by the entire gathering.
The opening address was made by Magistrate Hyman J. Reit, president of the N. Y. branch of the United Synagogue of America, who urged the assembled youth to think of its duties first to God, second to their country, third to other and fourth to themselves.
Other speakers were Rabbi Israel Goldfarb of Congregation Brith Israel Anshei Emes, Brooklyn, and “Uncle Bob” Sherwood, the oldest living Barnum clown.
