A law permitting people in Palestine to register as capitalist immigrants, although in possession of less than the stipulated £1,000, is published in to-day’s “Official Gazette”. The issuing of such a law was foreshadowed by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency two weeks ago.
This amnesty is applicable to all persons in Palestine at the time the law is published and is valid only till December 31st., 1931.
About 10,000 Jewish and a considerable number of Arab illegal entrants will be legalised by this amnesty. This will greatly facilitate the new census which is to be taken shortly in Palestine.
The issuance of the new law is considered as the most liberal and most helpful measure for the Jews during the entire term of Sir John Chancellor’s office as High Commissioner of Palestine.
