Ten thousand signatures have been obtained to a petition requesting the New York State Legislature to allow thousands of Jewish businessmen in New York who observe the Sabbath to conduct their business on Sundays unmolested.
The petition has been drawn up by retail store-keepers who observe the Sabbath, at the instance of the Jewish Sabbath Alliance. Under the existing laws, Sabbath observers are compelled to be idle two days in the week.
