Over eleven hundred teenagers and collegians have left or are leaving for Israel within the next week to participate in summer work-study projects conducted by the Jewish Agency there, it was announced by Mrs. Rose L. Halprin, chairman of the Jewish Agency-American Section, prior to her departure today for Jerusalem.
“Implementation of these programs, regularly sponsored every year by the various departments of the Jewish Agency-American Section and the American Zionist Youth Foundation,” Mrs. Halprin said, “has this year been handicapped by the situation in the Middle East and the American ban on travel which was lifted only last week.
“For every youngster going, there are five additional boys and girls who want to go but who cannot be accepted because of limitations that have developed in Israel as a result of recent developments. Both those who are going, and those who sought to go, give striking evidence of the desire of American youth to serve Israel in this time of crisis. The programs, generally designed to feature study and travel, will this year emphasize service to Israel. We are very proud of our American youth, and their parents for their expression of solidarity with the people of Israel.”
