More than 1,200 persons participated in a celebration arranged here for Dr. Chaim Zhitlowsky, noted Jewish cultural leader and writer, in honor of his seventieth birthday.
The celebration took place in the Strand Theatre and was addressed by Dr. Zhitlowsky who reviewed the last fifty years of his activities, which are closely linked with Jewish life of the last half century.
Representatives of Jewish cultural organizations greeted the guests. Emma Goldman was among the speakers who greeted Dr. Zhitlowsky.
