More than 12,000 Jewish boys and girls in eight countries of Europe and North Africa are spending their vacations in special summer camp colonies organized by the Joint Distribution Committee, it was reported during the week-end.
The report stated that the J.D.C. has appropriated $100,000 for its summer camp program in behalf of Jewish children in Belgium, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria. In addition to meeting the children’s food, clothing and maintenance needs, the J.D.C. provides camp and athletic equipment, personnel to work with the campers, and other assistance. Funds from government and local sources supplement the J.D.C. grants for the camps.
