Nearly 120,000 Jewish school children in Russia and Poland have become victims of tuberculosis, according to cablegrams received by Commissioner of Health Louis I. Harris from Dr. Bernard Kahn, European Director of the Joint Distribution Committee, and Dr. Joseph A. Rosen, representative of the Joint Distribution Committee in Russia.
Dr. Harris read the cables at a meeting of Jewish physicians of Greater New York held in Hosack Hall, at which 100 physicians were present to discuss plans for supporting the New York $6,000,000 United Jewish Campaign which will be held from April 25th to May 9th. Dr. Harris is Chairman of the Physicians and Surgeons Division of the Campaign.
Resolutions commending the United Jewish Campaign and assuring the active support of the Jewish physicians of New York were adopted.
Miss Irma May described the conditions in Poland observed by her on her three-months tour through the country.
Louis Marshall and David A. Brown addressed the meeting.
