The United Jewish Appeal of Greater New York, now conducting its annual drive for 1964, has raised $13, 000, 000 thus far in this year’s campaign, it was announced today by Samuel D. Leidesdorf, chairman of the local UJA’s “person-to person” telephone campaign. That phase of the drive opened at New York UJA headquarters today, and was the first of 14 telephone solicitation sessions scheduled between now and the end of June.
New York’s Mayor Robert F. Wagner was the principal guest at a luncheon today when the sessions were inaugurated. Monroe Goldwater, president of the UJA of Greater New York, presented to the Mayor a 2, 000-year-old oil lamp from Israel, in observance of New York City’s 300th anniversary. Mr. Goldwater lauded the Mayor’s years-long aid to UJA “as one of our most devoted associates and sincerest volunteer leaders.”
