1334 Jewish Immigrants Entered Canada in Past 7 Months; 178 Arrive in Nov.

A report of the activities of the Jewish Immigrant Aid Society of Canada at the port of Quebec has just been issued. The report covers activities from April 22 to November 22, 1927. During this period 1,534 Jewish immigrants entered the country.

During the summer season 163 boats arrived at the port of Quebec, with a total of 91,841 passengers of all nationalities. Of these the Jewish passengers numbered 1,534 or approximately 1.67 per cent., consisting of 624 men. 620 women and 290 children.

They were destined for provinces as follows: Quebec 669. Ontario 641. Manitoba 86, Saskatchewan 63. Alberta 19. British Columbia 39. Nova Scotia 11 and New Brunswick 6.

The Jewish arrivals each month during this period were 40 during April, 156 in May, 218 June. 296 July. 181 August. 208 September 257 October and 178 in November.

Of the total Jewish arrivals at this port. 1505 were admitted immediately on first examination, while 29 or 1.92 per cent, were detained. Of the 29 detained immigrants during the season. 3 were deported, 23 were released through the intervention of our legal aid department.

During this period, the representative of the society sent out 267 telegrams to the relatives of the incoming immigrants.
