15 Families, Survivors of Petlura Pogrom, Eager to Testify for Schwartzbard

Fifteen Jewish families, survivors of the anti-Jewish pogrom made by the Petlura forces in Tanantchi, Ukraine, are eager to appear as witnesses in the Schwartzbard trial in Paris, declares Serafimov, Russian journalist, writing in the “Isvestya.”

The majority of the Jewish inhabitants of the village Tanantchi were massacred and the Jewish houses were demolished and ploughed under so that no trace of the town was left. The survivors declare that Petlura himself entered the village and ordered the massacre.

The publication of interesting documents throwing light on Jewish moments in Russia and on the relations of several European states to the Jewish question in Russia during the war was announced by Professor Gollan, well known historian, here. The commission to study the history of Jewish movements in Russia, he stated, gathered valuable material on the history of the pogrom period, the ritual murder accusations including the Beilis trial, and on the relations of the powers to the Jewish question during the great war. Several foreign scholars, including Americans, are interested in the work of the commission. It is intended to publish the material in the United States. The edition is to be issued in Russian, Ukrainian and English.
