The thirty-fourth Council of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations will be held in Washington, D. C., from March 22 to 26, it was announced here today.
Progress of activities under the Union’s jurisdiction, the status of World Jewry and the “Place and Function of the Synagogue in America” will be discussed.
The Washington Hebrew Congregation is prepared to act as host to the 1,500 delegates, coming from all parts of the country, who will attend the convention. A feature of the meeting will be a banquet which will be addressed by a number of distinguished speakers.
Simultaneously with the Council parley, the National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods will hold its eleventh biennial convention and the National Federation of Temple Brotherhoods will hold its sixth biennial convention. The three allied bodies have 285 congregations with a membership of 64,000; 350 sisterhoods numbering 55,000 individuals; and 120 brotherhoods with 20,000 members.
