More than 17,500 Jews in Europe have registered with the United HIAS Service for emigration, and are ready to depart at “a moment’s notice,” Arthur Greenleigh, executive director of the organization, told a conference of the HIAS and Council of Migration Service here today.
“The problem, however,” stated Mr. Greenleigh, who recently returned from conferences with immigration officials in Europe, and Latin America, “is that we must find countries willing to accept them, and where they can be easily integrated into the economy and society.”
