Two important and valuable manuscripts of works by Chaim Nachman Bialik, famous Hebrew poet who died in 1934, have disappeared from the Bialik Archives, it was revealed here today by the curator of the institution. A world-wide search has been instituted.
One of the manuscripts is the original of the unfinished poetic drama “King David,” which Bialik had described as “my masterpiece.” The other is a translation of the Mishna, digest of Jewish ritual and Jurisprudence.
Disappearance of the manuscripts was disclosed by the curator at a meeting of the Bialik Association. Mayor Israel Rokach announced at the meeting that the city was taking over the Bialik house and collection and was pensioning the poet’s widow.
