More than $2 million for the economic development of Israel was raised today at the fashion show by Israeli designers given by the Greater New York Women’s Division of State of Israel Bonds in the Waldorf-Astoria. The high fashion event was the spring highlight of the women’s division’s all-out effort to help meet Israel’s economic needs through the sale of Israel Bonds in the New York metropolitan area.
Admission to the luncheon and haute couture fashion show, which featured women prominent as entertainers and leaders in social affairs as models, was based upon minimum purchase of $1000 in Israel Bonds and a charge of $15 per person. More than 750 persons attended, Chairman of the gala fashion event, which offered styles designed and manufactured by foremost leaders in Israel’s fashion industry, was Mrs. Jerome L. Stern, who is chairman of the Greater New York Women’s Division of Israel Bonds.
Other New York women who participated in the arrangements for the yearly fashion extravaganza were Vera Bacal, a fashion consultant, and Mrs. Miriam Freund, former president of Hadassah. The fashion show lunch also accorded special tribute to Mrs. Yosef Tekoah, wife of Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations.
