Two months of terrorism and “sadistic indulgences” against Vienna Jews and others by the Nazis are described in a five-column dispatch to the New York Times from a staff correspondent, field from Paris. The dispatch, which tells in detail of the torture and humiliation to which Jews have been subjected, says that the terrorism has now been taken “within walls through which it cannot be seen.” Blaming the rank and file, rather than Nazi leaders, for the excesses, the correspondent says that many in Austria who supported the Nazis have now become disillusioned.
