Rabbi Emil Bernhard Cohn, 55-year-old author, playwright and Zionist leader, has been transferred by the Gestapo, secret political police, to the notorious Columbia House, it was learned by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today.
Rabbi Cohn is accused of ridiculing the section of the Nuremberg laws which prohibit employment by Jews of “Aryan” women servants.
The rabbi was arrested at Koepenick, near Berlin, while addressing a Jewish meeting. When he referred to the Nuremberg laws, a Gestapo agent in the audience leaped to the platform, ordered the audience to disperse and arrested Rabbi Cohn.
Also being held in the Columbia House, on charges which haven’t been made clear, is Rabbi Ignatz Maibaum, spiritual leader of Frankfurt-am-Oder, who was arrested on Dec. 15 following an address he delivered at a Jewish meeting.
