More than 2,000 Jewish refugees who received American visas before the expiration of the Displaced Persons Immigration Act last December 31 are expected to sail from Europe by the end of March, it was announced here today by the European office of the Joint Distribution Committee. The J.D.C. announcement revealed that the organization expects Jewish emigration from Europe to remain heavy in 1952.
The J.D.C. revealed that during 1951 it had assisted 17,540 Jewish refugees to leave Europe for the United States, Latin America and the British Dominions. The number aided was 50 percent higher than in 1950. Nearly 12,000 of the immigrants went to the U.S. and Canada.
