The Vereniging voor Joodse Belangen, central Jewish representative body in Indonesia, has become affiliated with the World Jewish Congress, it was announced today by Dr. I, Schwarzbart, W.J.C. organization director. The total number of national affiliates of the Congress is now 66.
The announcement said that there are approximately 2,000 living in Indonesia. Sixty percent of them are of European origin while the remainder come from Oriental backgrounds. Principal Jewish communities in Indonesia are located in Batavia, Surabaya and Bandung, the announcement added.
