Awards for proficiency in Hebrew were presented today to 133 students in New York City high schools and junior high schools in the annual Hebrew Language contest. More than 2,000 students in 55 city schools took part in the competition for prizes provided by the Free Sons of Israel, the Hebrew Culture Council and the Jewish Teachers Association.
The winners received the awards, which included four top prizes of $50 United States bonds, at the office of the New York City Board of Education. Seven scholarships of $100 each also were awarded. The scholarships are to be applied to fees of the 1966 Israel Summer Seminar which the seven winners will attend.
