A campaign for $200,000 to “Save the ‘Y'” is in progress here this week.
The funds absolutely are necessary to keep the doors of the Young Men’s and Young Women’s Hebrew Association from closing, officials have announced.
Fifteen hundred persons crowded the auditorium of the “Y” to hear a group of speakers, including United States Senator Phillips Lee Goldsborough, inaugurate the association’s campaign.
Preceding speeches by Senator Goldsborough, Rabbi David W. Peralman, director of the association, and Harry Greenstein, State relief administrator, the choral society of the association, under direction of Cantor Adolph J. Weisgal, sang “Ahnu Bahnu Artzah” and three other numbers.
It would be tragedy if the “Y” were forced to close its door, the speakers pointed out.
