More than $2,000,000 has already been subscribed to the purchase of Israel bonds since the inception of the Israel bond campaign in this country, earlier this year, it was announced at a celebration this weekend marking Israel’s fifth anniversary. Israel Labor Minister Golda Myerson was a featured speaker at the celebration.
Mrs. Myerson told the gathering that two forces made possible the establishment of Israel–the preparedness of the Yishuv “to give their very all and the faith of the Jews in the Diaspora.” She called for the “same readiness to help now as was displayed during the War of Liberation.” Notwithstanding the economic strain, Mrs. Myerson continued, “Israel is prepared to receive Jews from the satellite countries.”
Henry Montor, chief executive officer of the Israel bond campaign in the United States, who launched the drive here, stressed that the purchase of Israel bonds “is not an act of charity but an expression of confidence in the future of Israel.” Prime Minister Louie St, Laurent sent a message of greetings to the meeting.
