Twenty-two Jewish graduates of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis will be commissioned at the 1954 commencement exercises this month, it was reported today. They will each receive personally inscribed copies of the Bible from the National Jewish Welfare Board’s Commission on Jewish Chaplaincy.
The presentation will be made to 13 newly-commissioned second lieutenants at West Point and nine newly-commissioned ensigns at Annapolis at special Jewish baccalaureate services arranged by the Jewish chaplains at the two academies. The services and presentations are part of the year-round program provided at the academies by JWB’s Commission on Jewish Chaplaincy.
