Twenty-two states have, up to now, asked President Nixon to intervene on behalf of the religious, cultural and emigration rights of Soviet Jews when he visits Moscow next month, it was reported at the 12th plenary session of the B’nai B’rith’s International Council which opened here today.
According to Herman Edelsberg, director of the Council, the request was contained in proclamations signed by the governors of Maine, Louisiana, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Utah and Idaho. In the 16 other states, the President was asked to act in resolutions passed by the state legislatures. The states are Colorado; Connecticut; Florida; Georgia; Indiana; Kentucky; Massachusetts; Michigan; Missouri; Nebraska; New York; Rhode Island; Tennessee; Virginia; and Wisconsin, and Kansas.
