22,000 Jewish workers, until recently employed in the tovacco industry in Poland, were forced into unemployment as a result of the Government monopoly introduced in the Polish tobacco industry.
As a result of the Government taking possession of the industry, many factories were closed. In the larger factories which continue to work, the government employs only those workers who consent to work on Saturday, thus barring all Jewish workers who under previous arrangements, had their rest day on Saturday.
