The extent of the circulation of Yiddish publications in the Union of Socialist Soviet Republics, fostered by the Jewish section of the Communist Party, is evident from figures made known here.
According to these figures 227 books in the Yiddish language were published in the Union of Socialist Soviet Republics during the year 1926. Of these 42 were textbooks, 23 popular books on scientific subjects, 45 dealt with political questions, 18 were children’s books, 24 belles lettres, 55 periodicals and 11 devoted to agricultural cooperative questions. In all 830,660 copies were printed.
