The trial of twenty-tree Jewish residents of the village Warklian is attracting wide attention throughout the Republic of Latvia.
At the trial which started four days ago, the defendants were charged with attacking and beating Latvian students. The prosecuting attorney presented the case in such a manner as to give the impression that this reflected a national conflict between Jews and Latvians, putting forward the accusation that the Jews attack the students because of a “Jewish hatred.”
The Latvian Jewish community is greatly interested in the outcome of the trial. One hundred and twenty-seven witnesses were called, including the local clergymen.
The defense is conducted by Professor Lazarsohn, Jewish member of the Latvian parliament, and the German attorney Garnitzki.
The reading of the act of indictment took several hours.
The defense denied the charges made against them. Pastor Racziborski declared on the witness stand that the best relations always existed between the Jewish and the Latvian population in Warklian. The attorney for the defense declared that the attack on the students was an act of defense because the students terrorized the village.

The agreement hears the signatures of Richard L. Cowan, J. H. Hawkins, Lewis Fowler.
