The Joint Distribution Committee has raised $2,374,062 to date in its $3,500,000 drive for aiding Jews in Central and Eastern Europe, it was announced today at a conference of the Plan and Scope Committee for the 1936 campaign at the Hotel Blackstone.

Rabbi Jonah B. Wise of New York, fund-raising co-chairman, reported the amount represented more than double the funds collected in 1935, with 937 communities contributing to the total. Felix M. Warburg, national chairman of the campaign, presided.

While the amount collected is far below the minimum necessary for carrying on the J.D.C. activities, declared Isidor Goons, campaign director, the organization will be a major beneficiary in a number of Jewish fund-raising campaigns in such cities as Baltimore, Cincinnati, Louisville, Rochester and Dayton.

The junior division of the J.D.C. has raised $31,409 — almost $10,000 more than last year — to aid young people in Central and Eastern Europe, according to a report by its chairman, Mrs. Pauline Baerwald Falk.
