More than $2,500 in cash, in addition to an unannounced total in pledges, was raised for the benefit of Joseph Isaac Schneerschn, the “Lubowitzer rabbi,” at a Chassidic “melave malkah” (Sabbath night feast) at the Jewish Center, 131 West 86th Street, last Saturday night. Several hundred persons attended.
Speakers praised Rabbi Schneersohn’s work in spreading the Torah among the Jews in many countries. The rabbi is very ill, it was stated. Samuel Kramer presided. Among the speakers was Rabbi Leo Jung of the Jewish Center.
