A scholarship fund to send 550 children to Jewish religious schools in New York was raised last night at the Waldorf-Astoria at a testimonial dinner given by the Jewish Education Committee in honor of Michael Schaap and Samuel Rottenberg, leaders in Jewish religious youth education activities.
More than $25,000 was contributed by the 1,000 guests, it was announced. The principal speaker was Samuel S. Schneierson, recently elected president of the Jewish Education Committee, who pointed out that the occasion marked forty years of community service by the guests of honor. On behalf of the assembly, Bernard Semel, secretary of the Jewish Education Committee, presented to Mr. Schaap and Mr. Rottenberg citations on parchment scrolls, expressing “the admiration, affection and esteem” of the gathering.
