THE TWENTY-THIRD ANNUAL HADASSAH CONVENTION LAST NIGHT ADOPTED A BUDGET OF $270,190 FOR MEDICAL WORK IN PALESTINE, REPRESENTING A $40,000 INCREASE OVER THIS YEAR’S BUDGET. THE DELEGATES ALSO PLEDGED TO RAISE $100,000 FOR THE YOUTH ALIYAH MOVEMENT AND VOTED A $5,000 GIFT TO MISS HENRIETTA SZOLD IN MEMORY OF NATHAN STRAUS, THE NOTED PHILANTHROPIST, FOR SOCIAL SERVICE AND CHILD PLACEMENT WORK IN PALESTINE.

THE CONVENTION TODAY VOTED $25,000 TO ESTABLISH A FELIX M. WARBURG MEMORIAL FUND FOR SOCIAL SERVICE AMONG PALESTINIAN CHILDREN UNDER THE DIRECTION OF MISS HENRIETTA SZOLD. THE RESOLUTION WAS SPONSORED BY MRS. ROSE JACOBS, RETIRING PRESIDENT OF HADASSAH.

MRS. ROBERT SZOLD, CHAIRMAN OF THE PALESTINE COMMITTEE, SAID THE NECESSITY FOR GREATER FUNDS FOR MEDICAL WORK WAS DUE TO THE ADVERSE ECONOMIC CONDITIONS IN PALESTINE AND HEAVY TAXATION ON THE JEWISH COMMUNITY AS RESULT OF THE DISTURBANCES. SHE GAVE A HISTORICAL SURVEY OF HADASSAH’S 25 YEARS OF HEALTH WORK, DECLARING IT HAD EFFECTED SOCIAL CHANGES TANTAMOUNT TO PUTTING THE TWENTIETH CENTURY INTO A MEDIEVAL SETTING. A REPORT ON JUNIOR HADASSAH WAS SUBMITTED BY MRS. BENJAMIN WEINRACH.

MISS SZOLD, YOUTH ALIYAH DIRECTOR, SAID THAT GERMAN CHILDREN IN PALESTINE WERE FEELING THE JOY OF CREATION IN ERETZ ISRAEL. SHE LAUDED EDDIE CANTOR, THE ACTOR, FOR HAVING RAISED $50,000 FOR THE YOUTH ALIYAH. MRS. DAVID GREENBERG ANNOUNCED THAT HADASSAH HAD RAISED $250,766 FOR THE ALIYAH IN THE PAST TWO YEARS.
