The Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston and its agencies raised close to $28, 000, 000 in capital fund and annual campaigns in the past three years, Benjamin Ulin, president of the Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston, reported today.
In a summary issued to the CJP executive committee, Mr. Ulin indicated that in addition to a total of $16, 000, 000 raised in the annual campaigns in the last three years, more than $7,500,000 was contributed for the expansion of Beth Israel Hospital, $2,500,000 for the expansion of Jewish Memorial Hospital, $250,000 for the construction of Ledgewood, a group care treatment center for boys, and $650, 000 for expansion of Hebrew Teachers College. These figures do not include commitments of some $1,700,000 made in the past year to the CJP Endowment Fund.
The report was made in connection with the dedication of the new Hebrew Teachers College building which took place today. “This achievement is an exciting illustration and reaffirmation of the vitality–and ability–of our Federation to meet important community needs, ” Mr. Ulin stated. “It is particularly noteworthy that our capital fund drives dealt with such areas as Jewish education, social service needs, teaching, research and rehabilitation. The quality and depth of our services in all these areas are becoming increasingly a factor in four long-range thinking and planning.”
