More than 400 representative men and women of the Catholic, Protestant and Jewish faiths listened attentively to a plea for world religious fellowship made by Sir Francis Younghusband, noted British soldier, explorer and scientist, at a reception given him at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
In introducing Sir Francis, Rabbi B. Leon Hurwitz, chairman of the reception, said: “As a soldier, Sir Francis found in life the most precious element worth while fighting for, namely, peace and good will; as an explorer, he discovered in every human being the possession of at least a minimum of conscience and goodness which, if properly harnessed, could be directed toward our common objective of making this world a better place to live in; and as a social engineer Sir Francis was attracted to the great experiment of the World Fellowship of Faiths, which aims to build “bridges of understanding across the chasms of prejudice.”
