Leo Tobin, Rebekah B. Hoffman and Anna Pearlman are the winners of free trips to Palestine in the essay contest on “Why Everyone Should Be Interested in the Upbuilding of Palestine,” it was announced Friday by the Manischewitz Matzo Company, sponsor.
Miss Hoffman, daughter of a Newark rabbi, won first prize and by the terms of the contest, Tobin, her grocer, also received the free trip. Miss Pearlman is a teacher at the Pittsburgh Hebrew Institute.
There were 248 prizes in all, lesser awards being made in cash and books. The judges were David Pinski, Nathan Straus, Jr., Dr. Joshua Bloch, Morris Rothenberg, Rabbi Wolf Gold and Abraham Goldberg.
