30,000 Jews Reported Residing in Amsterdam; Further Decline Expected

The Jewish population of Amsterdam declined from 140,000 before the Nazi occupation to 30,000 last year, according to statistics published here today. It is estimated that by 1970, the number of Jews in the city will have declined further to 25,000.

London’s Jewish Lord Mayor, Sir Bernard Waley-Cohen, will pay an official visit to Amsterdam during the latter part of April, it was reported here today. During his stay here, Sir Bernard is scheduled to visit the 280-year-old Sephardi Synagogue and the Jewish Historical Museum.
