The first shipment of citrus fruits to leave Palestine for Britain since the middle of 1940 will be shipped this week, it was learned today. It is expected to consist of about 300,000 cases of oranges and lemons, provided equally by Jewish and Arab growers.
Oranges and lemons have been a war-time casualty in Britain, where it has been almost impossible to secure one since Italy’s entry into the war closed the Mediterranean to shipments from Palestine and made shipments from elsewhere too hazardous to risk freights.
