Berl Locker, chairman of the Jewish Agency executive in Jerusalem, disclosed on his arrival here today that 320,000 immigrants have entered Israel since the new state was proclaimed 17 months ago. Mr. Locker will make a nationwide speaking tour in behalf of the United Jewish Appeal.
Stressing that the influx of immigrants into Israel has posed a grave problem for the Israel Government and the Jewish Agency, Mr. Locker said: “When any country receives in 17 months a number of immigrants equal to half of its original population, it is inevitable that a grave economic crisis will result.” He reiterated that there was no possibility his government would close the doors to further immigration.
