During the past five years the sum of $32,660 was distributed among 45 Hebrew literati and the widows of Hebrew literati by the Israel Matz Foundation. This foundation, which was established in February, 1925, by Israel Matz for the relief of aged and invalid Hebrew scholars and writers as well as the helpless widows and orphans of such cultural workers, has now issued a report of its five years’ activities.
Among the beneficiaries of the fund were men ranking foremost in Hebrew literature, who either through illness or old age were unable to find a livelihood. The foundation is administered by the following trustees: Prof. M. M. Kaplan, chairman; Dr. Joseph Krimsky, treasurer; Emanuel Neumann, honorary secretary; John L. Bernstein, Prof. Morris Levine, Dr. I. H. Levinthal, Rev. Z. H. Masliansky, Dr. Max S. Raisin, and Peter Wiernik. A. S. Orlans is the executive secretary.
