A broad program of constructive projects for Orthodox Jewry in the U.S. and Israel will be adopted at the 32nd National Convention of Agudath Israel of America, which opened here tonight, with 700 delegates participating. The convention, which will continue through Sunday night, will also consider implementation of the decisions of the 4th World Congress of the Agudah movement.
For the first time in the organization’s history, the convention is being held jointly between all Agudist groups in the U.S.: Agudath Israel, Zeirei Agudath Israel, the youth group; N’she Agudath Israel, the women’s group; and Bnos Agudah Israel, the girls’ group, with separate business sessions for each of the organizations participating in the gathering. Among the other problems to be discussed at the convention are the religious upbuilding of Israel, intensification of Torah-education throughout the United States, and a program to combat “the inroads within the ranks of Orthodoxy made by reformist elements to water down the traditional concepts of genuine Judaism.”
