Some 3.500 Jews emigrated from Turkey to Israel during April and the same rate is apparently being maintained this month, it was learned here today. Twenty-six hundred of the emigrants left from this port during April and the remainder from Izmir.
The exchange of diplomatic representatives between Turkey and Israel, unofficially reported scheduled for last month, has still not taken place. As a result, the migration of Jews to Israel is completely uncontrolled by the Israeli authorities.
The Chamber of Commerce of Izmir, Turkey’s largest exporting port, has announced that $1,500,000 worth of Turkish goods were shipped to the Jewish state from that port during 1948. Israel is high on the list of 30 nations to whom Turkey exports its products.
