THERE WERE 39,000 JEWISH SCHOOL CHILDREN REMAINING IN GERMANY ON JAN. 1, 1937, OF WHOM 23,670 ATTEND SPECIAL JEWISH SCHOOLS, ACCORDING TO A REPORT TO THE JOINT DISTRIBUTION COMMITTEE. THE JEWISH SCHOOL SYSTEM IS COMPOSED OF 167 SCHOOLS, OF WHICH 76 ARE PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, 72 PRIVATE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS AND 19 ARE HIGHER SCHOOLS.
OUT OF A ESTIMATED 7,000 GERMAN EMIGRANTS IN FRANCE, SOME 2,500 ARE NEEDY, ACCORDING TO ANOTHER REPORT RECEIVED BY THE J.D.C. THE GERMAN REFUGEES IN BELGIUM ARE ESTIMATED AT ABOUT 3,000.
