The National Council of Churches of Christ today published data showing that Jews rank third in membership of religious congregations. The Council establishes that, in 1953, there were 3,990 Jewish congregations in the United States, with a membership of about 5,000,000. The number of Protestants affiliated with churches is given as 55,000,000. Roman Catholic church affiliation is in second place, with 31,000,000 members.
