4-15 Years Asked for War Criminals

The public prosecutor at the Frankfurt Nazi war crimes trial involving six former members of the Frankfurt Police Battalion 306 asked yesterday for sentences ranging from 4 to 15 years for the accused.

The accused are Adolf Petsch, 15 years, charged with complicity in murdering some 10.000 Jews and Soviet prisoners; Johann Kuhr, High Commissioner, 8 years, charged with aiding and abetting the murder of some 17,000; Heinrich Plantius, High Commissioner, 7 years; Heinz-Dieter Teltze, High Commissioner, 6 years; Rudolf Eckert, High Commissioner, 5 1/2 years and Heinrich Gross, Frankfurt Police Chief, 4 years.

The sentences are expected to be rendered in Feb. All six were involved in the murder of thousands of persons in the ghettos of Stolin, Janow, Drohotchin and Pinsk in the autumn of 1942 behind the eastern front.

Jonathon Karmon, director and choreographer of the Grand Music Hall of Israel, was presented today with a citation by Ambassador David Rivlin, Consul General of Israel in New York for his role in introducing Israeli dance and culture to the city. The Grand Music Hall of Israel opens at the Forum, Madison Square Garden, Jan. 4 for a ten-day run. The show, part of Israel’s 25th anniversary celebrations, features Israeli singing star Shoshana Damari.

The Bulgarian government has honored a member of the Jewish community in Sofia, Sami Rafaelov Bidgeranov. He was awarded the “Order of Popular Labor” on the occasion of his 50th birthday and “for his active participation in the building of Socialism.”
