Two Jews were today nominated by the Government Party as candidates on its lists for the parliamentary elections to be held June 2.
The Royalist Party, which is competing with the Government Party in the elections, also nominated two Jews on its lists. The Royalist Party is led by General Metaxas.
Although the Jewish population may vote for different tickets, it is quite certain that most of the Jews will vote the pro-Government ticket. Jewish leaders in Greece are highly satisfied with the policy of the present government in combating anti-Semitism and with its outspoken pro-Jewish attitude.
PANGALOS SEEKS VOTES
General Pangalos, who has formed a new party here in the belief that the followers of Venizelos will vote for him, is also trying to win Jewish votes. In a proclamation issued by him this week, he warned Jews that if they all vote for the Government Party it will be taken as a sign that the Jewish population is siding with one political group only, which may spell undesirable consequences for the Jews later.
The fight among the contending parties for the Jewish vote is one of the major issues in the election campaign, since the Jews, numbering more than 50,000 in Salonica alone, gave a majority of 11,000 votes to the present Government Party during the last election.
