Concern was expressed by refugee-aid circles here today over the fate of German Jewish refugees known to be aboard several German liners which failed to make scheduled calls at Shanghai. The local authorities have not received any news of the ships’ whereabouts or the fate of the passengers scheduled to be disembarked here.
The liner Potsdam left Bremen on Aug. 23 and Southampton on Aug. 25 with 100 refugees aboard. It is believed possible that the ship is in a Spanish port. Other ships carrying smaller groups of refugees which are overdue are the Elbe, due Aug. 30; the Coburg, due Sept. 10, and the Nordmark, due Sept. 14.
