A group of 40 Jews who were arrested several weeks ago while attempting to enter Argentina illegally from Uruguay were released today by order of President Juan Peron following a plea in their behalf by the pro-Peron Jewish group, Organization Israelite Argentina.
Manuel Scheinson, new president of the O.I.A., told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency prior to his departure for the U.S., where he will remain for several weeks, that the O.I.A. recently received a total of 1,200 Argentine Visas for immigrants who have relatives in this country. Replying to a question as to why it is difficult for Jews to receive visas for immigration to Argentina, Mr. Scheinson said that this resulted from the fact that most Jews wished to settle in Buenos Aires and were reluctant to work in rural areas.
